The £400m Locking Parklands development in Weston-super-Mare has recently been granted outline planning consent to complete the remaining areas of this important regeneration project which is bringing about the transformation of a former MoD site into a cleaner, greener, sustainable community.
Rupert Joseland, south west Regional Director for the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, the partner developer at the scheme explains:
“To date, we have been awarded planning permission to develop the 200 acre Locking Parklands scheme in specific phases. This new planning consent builds on the success of those previous development phases and now allows us to complete the remainder of this 200 acre site in one continuous rolling phase of work.
“A ten-year project, once complete, this extensive development will provide 650,000 sq ft of employment space, creating up to 2,000 local job opportunities, and a sustainable community of 1,450 new homes. Surrounded by 80 acres of landscaped parkland, the scheme will also include a high street with community amenities, including a school, a retail centre, a library and leisure facilities.”
Since phased development work first began on site in 2010, St. Modwen has now already provided 6,000 sq ft of office space, with employment creation potential of 50 new jobs, and 250 new homes. To date all phase one and phase two of homes have been sold on site, subject to legals, with phase 3 of homes expected to launch early next year.
