Leading property adviser Bilfinger GVA has been appointed to provide property management services at the mixed-use Pebble Mill scheme in Birmingham.
Owned by Calthorpe Estates, the 27 acre former BBC site is currently being transformed to deliver over 350,000 sq ft of medical and life science facilities.
Located within Edgbaston Medical Quarter, an area which boasts over 64% of Birmingham’s healthcare economy, the Pebble Mill scheme will include the new 172,000 sq ft Dental Hospital with a School of Dentistry, which is nearing completion.
The site also has planning permission for a 150,000 sq ft private hospital, with Circle Health having submitted a reserved matters planning submission for a 62 bed BUPA care home, and a state-of-the-art BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated 55,000 sq ft medical building on Plot Four, which Calthorpe Estates will be developing and for which occupiers are being sought.
Bilfinger GVA will provide full on-going facilities and property management services across the estate.
Guy Thompson, Director at Bilfinger GVA, said: “We are immensely proud to work alongside Calthorpe Estates on this prestigious new development. The scheme is a major triumph for the city and we are excited to be appointed to manage a site which has so much history for Birmingham and such a bright future.
“We will be working hand-in-hand with Calthorpe Estates and all the site stakeholders at Pebble Mill to ensure the high standards are upheld and we will focus our attention on creating a vibrant and safe working environment within the attractive public realm”.
Work on the access routes in and out of the estate and the first phase of the associated public realm will be completed in September. Construction of the final phase of the public realm, including the ecological corridor alongside the Bourn and Chad Brooks, and a tranquillity garden are due to complete by the end of 2015.
Developed by Calthorpe Estates, the leading property developer and investor responsible for the sustainable regeneration of the prestigious Calthorpe Estate in Edgbaston, the Pebble Mill masterplan is designed to meet the highest standards for sustainable, suburban science parks.
Ralph Minott, Director of Development at Calthorpe, said: “Pebble Mill is part of Birmingham’s world class healthcare cluster and presents an attractive offer for occupiers in clinical expertise and healthcare.
“This is a very exciting time for Pebble Mill with the first building to be delivered since 2001 nearing completion and the infrastructure and public realm now ready to be opened alongside the impressive Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry.
“We are looking forward to continuing our work with Bilfinger GVA, who have been in instrumental in the smooth running of the scheme strategies for the delivery of the public experience, and strengthening our positive working relationship.”
Birmingham continues to attract world class clinical expertise and medical knowledge, with the West Midlands having more medical technology companies than any other region, and this site’s location just one mile from two of the UK’s most high profile medical facilities at the University of Birmingham and the £545 million Queen Elizabeth Hospital, we hope will add to the international strength and significance in the medical quarter.
