Property consultancy Bruton Knowles has helped broker a prestigious £2m deal on behalf of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to create a new specialist training centre at Sheffield Business Park.
The building will become the principle training and examination centre for Argyle-Ruane Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institution which is a global leading provider of non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection training and consultancy services.
NDT is the application of non-intrusive measurement techniques that identify damage and irregularities in materials such as pressure vessels, storage tanks and other safety-critical components.
The building will house unique teaching facilities for a range of disciplines, as well as meeting and conference facilities and Level 3 consultancy support. It will also act as a business centre for members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, complementing its head office on Birdcage Walk, Westminster.
A further £1.5m will be spent on the existing steel framed office building.
Peter Croft, Argyll-Ruane Marketing Executive with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said: “The move represents a substantial investment in improving the organisation’s teaching facilities with new equipment throughout and new interactive LED screens in each classroom to optimise the learning experience of delegates.
“The move will also see an increase in parking facilities and improvements to the catering provision. “
Sheffield University has taken a site opposite for a new high technology engineering school currently being built.
Sam Spencer from Bruton Knowles said: “We were delighted to work with such a respected organisation and help IMechE to acquire suitable premises.
“With the current increasing investment in the area, the new site will become a centre of excellence for mechanical engineers.
“We wish the Institution of Mechanical Engineers all the best in their new facility.”
