Two Southampton companies feature in this years’ list of top 20 companies growing internationally in the Central South region, according to accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP.
The second year of BDO’s campaign to champion the mid-market in the Central South celebrates those companies which have proven to be an essential part of the UK economy. Unknown to most, these are the businesses which nationally have overtaken their counterparts in the Mittelstand, Germany’s much feted mid-market, both in terms of sales generated and the number of people employed.
The two companies named on BDO’s list of those with the highest growth in overseas turnover are Fusion People Ltd and Selwood Group Ltd. R&M Electrical Group and Oil Spill Response Limited are also receiving special recognition for their international achievements.
Kim Hayward, BDO’s International Liaison Partner based out of Southampton says: “Successful international mid-sized businesses (MSBs) have a 21st century mind-set. Thanks largely to the internet and sophisticated supply chains, we have a global village of commercial activity, and most MSBs will get opportunities to trade internationally. But simply exporting a UK-originated product or service is not today’s international way of working and is often not ambitious enough.”
Arbinder Chatwal, BDO’s Head of India Advisory Services, adds: “Businesses need to begin to think and act like an international business from the start. This means being well prepared, adaptable, responsive, creative, using technological advantages and getting more involved overseas and taking control of markets when possible.”
