St. Modwen has secured the go-ahead to develop further employment space at its Burton Gateway Industrial Park on the A38 – making it one of the largest industrial and warehouse developments in the Midlands.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has granted the UK’s leading regeneration specialist planning permission for an additional 230,000 sq ft of distribution and industrial space at the park – taking the total amount of planned employment space up to 1 million sq ft.
St. Modwen’s decision to apply for the extra space follows high levels of interest from major occupiers and marks a further vote of confidence in the improving Midlands market.
Ian Romano, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “With outline planning consent already secured for 770,000 sq ft of employment space, work underway on a £1 million dedicated A38 junction and the option of units as large as 400,000 sq ft, Burton Gateway is already attracting several enquiries from national and international occupiers.
“This extra land will boost the potential of Burton Gateway and create hundreds more jobs for local people.”
St. Modwen received detailed planning for the first 87,000 sq ft warehouse from East Staffordshire Borough Council last year. Construction will begin this summer.
Jon Ryan-Gill, of property agency Knight Frank, added: “Securing expansion to up to 1 million sq ft puts St. Modwen and Burton Gateway in a unique position to answer the high demand for warehouse and industrial units in the Midlands.
“Burton Gateway is just one of a small number of sites where both planning consent for 1 million sq ft has been secured and infrastructure is underway. This is great news for the East Staffordshire economy.”
