The South West has a thriving construction industry with the region predicted to exceed the projected average UK growth rate for 2015 to 2019 according to a recent CITB report. The regional estimated average output over this period is 3.6%, considerably higher than the UK predicted rate of 2.9%.
It is this prosperous growth and promising future that has prompted the first South West Construction Summit. The Summit aims to bring together key contributors of the regional construction industry and its supply chain to support and underpin the progress already being made. The event will explore opportunities, major projects, client commitments and procurement best practice, including; skills, image, capacity and competency in areas such as BIM and offsite construction.
Taking place on the 12th June 2015, at the Marriott Hotel, Bristol – this combined conference and exhibition will be hosted by Constructing Excellence South West – the organisation tasked with driving the change agenda in construction within the region and which forms part of the Constructing Excellence Regional Network (CERN).
The South West Construction Summit will guide the built environment sector, defining their route map for gaining strategic opportunities in a lively and structured way, with input from industry leaders and offer the opportunity to hear from Peter Hansford, the Government’s Chief Construction Advisor.
Peter Hansford will present the industry strategy, Construction 2025 – highlighting the progress made over the last three years, which has gone some way to transform the UK construction sector – as is evidenced by the growth in the South West, together with outlining the challenges ahead.
Following his keynote presentation, Peter Hansford will join the other speakers on a panel for an open Q & A session. This will offer an excellent opportunity for delegates to pose questions directly to a selection of the industry’s most highly influential professionals and to network with some of the most difficult to reach decision makers within the South West built environment.
The conference programme will open with a presentation from David Renwick, CEO of Ocean Housing Group. David will be discussing the regional view of construction opportunities within the South West. Additional speakers include Robert Knight, Operations Director at Igloo Regeneration, Terry Stocks, L2 BIM Programme Director to the Government, Helen Baker, Head of Procurement at the University of the West of England, Roger Stone, Sector Strategy Manager South West CITB, Mark Wray, Lead Technologist for Built Environment at Innovate UK and Don Ward, Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence. More details regarding the speaker programme can be found online.
The Summit will be chaired by Andrew Carpenter – CEO of Constructing Excellence South West – who will capture and feedback on the day, alongside a panel of industry leaders who operate across key construction disciplines and will contribute views and opinions as well as the assembled audience of over 250 delegates.
It is set to be a busy day for the South West construction sector as the Summit will be swiftly followed that evening by the South West Built Environment Awards 2015 at the same venue.
