Birmingham-based interior architects Monteith Scott plan to make an impressive entrance at Baskerville House, after being appointed to transform its lobby into a grand reception area.
Hermes Real Estate’s Baskerville House, located on Centenary Square, offers Grade A office space in Birmingham city centre. The Grade II listed building, which was built on the site of typographer John Baskerville’s home and is a former civic building, is already occupied by Marketing Birmingham and E C Harris.
Monteith Scott managing director Alison Monteith said: “Baskerville House, located next to the stunning Library of Birmingham and a soon-to-be upgraded public square, is a prime location for businesses looking to move to, or relocate within, the city. The reception area will now reflect the quality of the office accommodation available.
“When Baskerville House was built in the 1930s, people entered via a revolving door and looked up to a large chandelier in the lift lobby. Although we didn’t know this when we started to redesign the space, modern versions of these two features were included. We are relocating the reception desk to create a more welcoming approach for visitors to the building and a more discrete, dedicated route for occupiers.”
Ian Cody, asset manager at Hermes Real Estate, said: “Monteith Scott’s designs will result in a high quality but subtle upgrade of the 1930s Art Deco building. The work will increase Baskerville House’s appeal to potential occupiers looking for Grade A office space in this growing city.”
The renovation project will start in April.
Monteith Scott, based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, is led by managing director Alison Monteith, design director Derek Matthews, and technical director John Millington. The company has two divisions – Work and Play – operating across a range of sectors, which means that it understands the demands of its clients’ industries.
