An international award and a top three place in the world in the ACA professional exams are amongst the latest qualifications for staff at the Leicester office of business and financial advisers Grant Thornton UK LLP.
Dan Millichip, an Associate in the Tax team, achieved the third highest average mark across all ACA professional stage subjects in the 2014 exams, which won him the International Order of Merit and coveted Hewitt Prize for securing the third highest place in the world in the exams.
Also passing ACA exams this year are Ed Cox, Keshav Kapila and Avneet Jaspal, with Kiya Jacobs passing two ATT papers taken in November last year.
The Hewitt Award is named after Flight-Lieutenant Dudley Hewitt, ACA, admitted in 1940. He was reported missing, presumed killed, following air operations in 1944 and his father established the Award in 1954.
ACA is the ICAEW chartered accountant qualification regarded as one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available in the global accountancy profession.
Dan joined Grant Thornton, Leicester, as a trainee in 2013, following an internship position at the firm in 2010. The ACA professional qualification forms part of his overall training with his goal being to qualify as a tax adviser with the firm.
“Passing the exams are of course great, and it is particularly pleasing to have the third highest average mark across all six exam topics, as this demonstrates good development and understanding across all areas of accountancy,” says Dan, who will collect the Hewitt Award at a prize giving ceremony in London in April.
Commenting on the latest exam passes at the firm, Chris Frostwick, Partner and Practice Leader at Grant Thornton in Leicester, said: “All five staff are to be congratulated on passing their exams. I know they have each worked hard and applaud them for their success.
“Particular congratulations have to be paid to Dan. To achieve third place on an international stage is simply excellent.
“Securing the most respected and necessary qualifications in the accountancy profession are of course essential and Grant Thornton is committed to supporting all our staff and trainees on this aspect of their professional journey,” he adds.
Grant Thornton’s Leicester office has approximately 120 staff providing business and financial advice across Corporate and Personal Tax, audit and assurance, employer solutions, corporate finance, and sustainability, to organisations across the East Midlands.
