A new craze is set to hit Salisbury with the opening of the city’s first ‘escape room’ experience.
The Magna Carta themed game is planned for a former suite of first floor offices at 11a Fisherton Street in the city centre.
Property consultancy Myddelton & Major successfully let the premises on an asking rent of £5,950 to Salisbury Escape.
Escape room experiences are based on the Japanese online game Takagism.
Players have to work together to solve puzzles, clues and challenges to escape a themed room before a timer runs out.
Rachael Ward, a senior surveyor at Myddelton & Major, said: “The escape room craze has gripped the Far East and America.
“The games are now becoming very popular in Europe and we’re pleased to play our part in setting the stage for the first escape room in Salisbury.”
She added: “Its arrival is timely as we celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta this year and is another attraction to draw visitors into the city centre.”
Salisbury Cathedral has one of four surviving copies of the Magna Carta, regarded as the cornerstone of liberty in the English-speaking world.
The Salisbury experience will open in March, subject to planning consent, with a Magna Carta theme.
Players will have to find a historian who has disappeared with a copy of the Magna Carta, using their skills to uncover secrets which have been hidden for 800 years.
