GVA Manchester has secured £2.5million of RGF funding for its client, Reform Energy, to develop Fleetwood Food Processing and Distribution Park in Fleetwood, Wyre, to support the expansion of this sector locally as an employer and international exporter of produce.
One of the 14 projects in the North West to receive funding, Reform Energy’s park will provide a modern, high-quality hub, including 15,500 sq m of commercial space, with bespoke units to facilitate the retention and expansion of local businesses AM Seafoods, Jack Wright, Oban Fisheries, Midland Fisheries and Wyre Fish Dock Management in addition to sole traders.
Safeguarding 350 jobs and the creation of more than 150 new jobs within the fishing industry, Fleetwood Food Processing and Distribution Park will produce in excess of 12,000 tonnes of product, including over 6,000 tonnes for export, bringing a much-needed increase in employment opportunities for local people.
GVA provided funding advice, including preparation of the client’s Regional Growth Fund application, engagement with occupiers, local lobbying and engagement with the local authority to secure the RGF funding.
Nicola Rigby, director at GVA Manchester and project leader, commented: “This funding announcement is a fantastic result for Fleetwood and GVA is proud to be involved in the project. The funding will enable the construction of premises for a number of key businesses, allowing for relocation from sub-standard accommodation to brand new fit for purpose space which will allow expansion of activity including increased job opportunities and exports from the economy. This is a critical investment within the fishing industry – a key part of Fleetwood’s heritage, and a key part of its future.”
John Potter, chief executive of Reform Energy, added: “GVA’s advice and expertise in delivering our RGF application was faultless and, I believe, contributed to our successful bid.”
