PureGym, the UK’s leading affordable fitness provider, is pleased to announce that they will be opening their first club in Liverpool within the iconic Lewis’s building, which is being project managed by a team from UK commercial property adviser GVA.
The new gym, which will open later this month, will be based on the lower ground level of the former department store. It will be spread over 25,000 sq ft, making it one of the chain’s biggest gyms to date and a flagship for the brand in the north of England. It will also create up to 30 new jobs, contributing to the economic growth of the area.
PureGym, which operates more than 70 gyms nationwide, are committed to removing barriers to entry to gym membership by removing contracts, driving down prices and extending opening hours. At PureGym, memberships start from £9.99 a month and clubs are open 24 hours a day.
Describing the new site, Angela Crawshaw, Property Director for PureGym, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring affordable fitness to Liverpool in such an impressive and large-scale location. We have been looking for the right properties in Liverpool for some time, and are delighted to have confirmed our presence within the Lewis’s building. We are also soon to be opening a second club north of the city, which is the former Aintree Fitness First Klick. This is another great site on a very busy commuter route with plenty of free parking.”
The £80m redevelopment of Lewis’s comprises over 320,000sq ft of restaurants, cafes, offices and a hotel, and is part of the £160m Central Village scheme which also contains Liverpool Central rail station used by more than 13.5m people per year. The delivery of the 80,000 sq ft Grade A office development has been funded in part by a European Regional Development Fund contribution.
Bowmer & Kirkland are currently on site as main contractor delivering the refurbishment of the Grade II listed Lewis’s Building. The 126-bed Adagio apartment hotel is now open to the public and performing well.
Savills and CBRE are advising on the leisure offering with GVA project managing the delivery of the Lewis’s building.
