One of the UK’s leading data centre design, build and management companies which started life in a small rented office in Sutton Coldfield has reached £10 million turnover in its 10th anniversary year.
Workspace Technology was established by managing director Roy Griffiths in 2004 before moving to a bigger office in Emmanuel Court, Reddicroft.
The rapidly-growing company, which receives financial advice from Baldwins Accountants, now occupies a three-storey building in Emmanuel Court after buying the premises in 2010.
In April this year, the company also opened their very own Birmingham Colocation Data Centre, called DC One, to provide colocation, hosting and disaster recovery services to the Midlands and surrounding areas.
Roy said this had been a landmark year for the business, which now has 37 employees.
“We launched the business to meet an increasing demand for specialist data centre design and build expertise,” he said.
“We have steadily grown over the years, starting with a just a handful of employees to owning our own multi-story head office building as well as opening a 200 rack modular colocation data centre facility.
“DC One is an exceptional next generation energy efficient and highly resilient modular data centre facility.
“We not only use it to fulfil the demands for high quality colocation and hosting space in Birmingham, but also as a reference and demonstration site for potential new clients that wish to acquire their own data centre, allowing them to have a physical look at the quality and finish of the data centre infrastructure that we have designed and built for ourselves and our clients.
“We have had rapid growth over the last three to four years with last year’s turnover reaching £8.5 million. To have reached £10 million in our tenth year of trading is a fantastic achievement.
“We have built a reputation within the industry of working with global and UK private and public sector including the Ministry of Defence and aligned agencies, Host Europe Group, Nottingham Trent University, Leicester City Council and the University of Warwick to name a few.
“We have remained in Sutton Coldfield throughout our expansions as it is the ideal town situated in the middle of the UK and within easy reach of the motorway network, which is perfect for being the central hub for all of our UK business – and we are looking forward to 2015 with confidence.”

“Originally with Griffith & Griffith, we helped form and structure the company initially before providing advice on remuneration structures and acting as a sounding board on many ideas over the years,” he said.
“We have supported the business with bookkeeping services as well and we have seen the business enjoy strong growth over the years.”
