Nottingham partner Jon Warsop has been appointed as group chairman at accountancy group UHY Hacker Young following 17 years’ service by Howard Spencer.
Jon has been a partner at the firm’s Nottingham office since 1997, specialising in audit, strategic business planning, corporate finance and M&A, with a particular expertise in the not for-profit sector and academies.
During Howard’s chairmanship, the UHY Hacker Young Group saw its annual fee income more than quadruple, its number of office locations treble and number of partners more than double.
A key priority for Jon will be chairing the UK group to build on its presence across the country and driving its strategy for growth over the next five years. He and the board will be looking to draw on the group’s national expertise and also the strength of the UHY International network, which is currently ranked the 16th largest accountancy network worldwide.
Jon said: “Howard has steered the group through an enormously successful period of growth; we have quadrupled our fee income, trebled the number of offices, climbed the league tables and are delivering our clients an even better level of service.
“We now have a truly national presence, backed by an international network with equal clout and expertise. In a global economy businesses are increasingly looking for that reach – both overseas companies doing business in the UK and the growing number of regionally based British companies that operate and trade around the world.
“One of the priorities for the group over the next few years will be continuing to make the maximum use of our pool of expertise and referrals; it expands as we grow and makes us even better placed to deliver the best possible advice to the widest possible range of clients.”
Outgoing chairman, Howard Spencer said he was delighted to hand the reins over to Jon. He said: “Jon is a highly respected practitioner who has been involved in the growth of the Nottingham office, and I am sure that he will have every success in leading the group through the next phase of our growth.”
Jon added that despite the forthcoming UK General Election and some uncertainty over the strength of the recovery, prospects for the coming year are positive, saying: “Although there is some uncertainty related to the General Election and how the UK recovery may be affected by the Eurozone and Chinese economies, we are extremely active at the moment on behalf of new and existing clients.”
