Progress on The Crescent, Hinckley’s new multi-million pound retail and cinema development set to transform Hinckley Town Centre, has reached a new milestone as construction began on the major new Sainsbury’s store.
The new Sainsbury’s store, having 56,000 sq ft of all sales area and integrated 540-space car park, is just one element of a major redevelopment of Hinckley Town Centre that will also feature a five-screen multiplex Cineworld cinema along with new space for 25 new shops, family restaurants and an office when it opens next autumn.
The contractor appointed by the Tin Hat Regeneration Partnership to carry out the works, Bowmer & Kirkland, has been working on the site since the summer, clearing buildings and completing ground works and is now starting the construction phase of the works.
Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Stuart Bray, said: “I am delighted to see the outline of the new Sainsbury’s store beginning to take shape. This represents a significant investment in Hinckley that, along with the cinema and other shops, will bring a great deal of new employment and prosperity to the town. I am pleased to see that students and a number of other local people have already been offered work experience and employment opportunities on the site.”
Tony Baker, of the Tin Hat Regeneration Partnership, said: “This is the latest milestone in the development of The Crescent, Hinckley, and we are delighted with the progress being made. This is an exciting scheme for the town that will bring fresh shopping and leisure choice to the people in the area.”
Hinckley was recently ranked no.22 in Property Week’s Hot 100 retail hotspots outside of central London.
