Worldwide leading orthopaedic manufacturer, Arthrex, has expanded at St Paul’s Developments’ acclaimed South Yorkshire business park, Smithy Wood, taking its total office space to 14,000 sq ft.
Arthrex, a worldwide leader in orthopaedic medical products, moved into a 10,000 sq ft two storey office unit in Phase 1 at Smithy Wood in 2009 and has now signed a new lease for a further 4,000 sq ft on the ground floor of the neighbouring office Unit 4. Knight Frank and Fowler Sandford acted for St Paul’s Developments and Arthrex was unrepresented.
Since taking occupation at Smithy Wood Arthrex has enjoyed consistent growth, launching thousands of new medical products every year. The company’s recent expansion signals the near full occupation of all 165,000 sq ft of developed accommodation at Smithy Wood in Phases 1 & 2. Just the 4,000 sq ft first floor offices within Unit 4 now remain available.
Smithy Wood is one of the region’s most acclaimed business and industrial parks occupying a strategic location in South Yorkshire with immediate access to Junction 35 of the M1. The scheme has has attracted a host of high profile occupiers since work started in 2005 including; Kier, DPD, Medilink UK, Konica Minolta to name a few.
Regeneration specialist St Paul’s Developments, in a joint venture partnership with The Norfolk Estate, has transformed 20 acres of the extensive 50 acre site and following the success of the first two phases, the partnership recently launched the third phase which extends to 29 acres of ‘oven ready’ EZ status land.
David Newton, Managing Director of St Paul’s Developments, said; “We are delighted to have been able to accommodate Arthrex’s expansion at Smithy Wood . Between Smithy Wood and our nearby Junction 35a business park, we have a high number of occupiers from the medical sectors and it’s interesting to have seemingly created a hub for these industries. With only one floor now remaining of our built stock, we are focussing our attention on the possibilities for the extensive 29 acre site at Smithy Wood which has EZ status and can accommodate large occupiers up to 300,000 sq ft.”
Rosalyn Barber, Office and Quality Manager at Arthrex, said; “Smithy Wood has proven to be a successful base for Arthrex and the business has enjoyed year upon year growth since we moved in. Having brought out a number of new innovations in recent years, we had started to outgrow our current space and expanding into the neighbouring unit presented a superb opportunity for us to grow without disruption to our operations.”
