A Coventry construction company has reaped a £5.8million design-and-build contract to create a state-of-the-art horticulture development on behalf of a Midlands College.
Deeley Construction has won the tender to transform Pershore College, part of the Warwickshire College Group, to include a new 18,500 sqft glass complex which will house a new science and technology centre, a collections house, teaching rooms and project spaces and extensive research and development facilities.
The development was given the green light earlier this year and Deeley Construction will start work in October. Work is expected to take just under a year to complete.
Martin Gallagher, managing director of Deeley Construction, said it was a major contract to win.
He said: “We were thrilled to be awarded the contract for Pershore College following the tender process.
“Although the development itself is outside of the Warwickshire area, it is part of Warwickshire College and we are delighted that they have opted for Deeley Construction as a local contractor on the project.
“It’s a very exciting project from a technical point of view too so it was one we are very much looking forward to getting underway.
“The rest of the college will remain open while we undertake the work but we are experienced in working on projects where we work quickly and effectively but with minimal disruption.”
The new development will ensure Pershore College remains at the forefront of the horticulture industry and allow it to develop a centre of excellence in food production.
It will allow students to learn using leading edge facilities, in collaboration with employers and partners, using the latest technology.
The Skills Funding Agency has helped to fund the project.
