The Bristol office of accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has announced that it has raised just under £4k for Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, Bristol Children’s Hospital’s dedicated charity, following a gruelling 10 day bike ride from Bristol to Barcelona.
After setting off from outside BDO’s Bristol office at Bridgewater House, the four strong Bristol team, along with a colleague from the firm’s Southampton office, cycled to Portsmouth to catch a ferry across the English Channel to Caen. Ten days and 1,000 miles later, having cycled through France and crossed the Pyrenees on the east of the border with Spain, the team arrived at the finish line in Barcelona.
Tomas Zalys, who works in BDO Bristol’s Audit team and led the group, said: “It was an exhausting trip but the amount of money we have raised definitely made it worth the while. We would like to thank our friends, family and colleagues for their generous donations and look forward to our next fundraising campaign.”
Helen Haskell, Corporate & Events Fundraiser at Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, said: “We are very grateful to BDO for supporting The Grand Appeal. This was a huge undertaking and a fantastic achievement to complete the challenge in just 10 days. The funds raised by the team will be used to support babies and children receiving treatment at Bristol Children’s Hospital from across the whole of the South West and South Wales.”
A group of six employees from BDO Bristol also took part in TrekFest earlier this month, raising over £2k* for Pill-based Penny Brohn Cancer Care. The team completed the 27 mile walk across the Peak District within their 12 hour target despite dreadful weather conditions.
