ABP Port of Southampton is urging visitors to this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show to put their parking money to a good cause.
Every year port operator Associated British Ports makes its land available for car parking during the PSP Southampton Boat Show and donates the money raised to local charities.
This year’s proceeds will be shared between disabled boat trip charity Solent Dolphin, cancer support charity Wessex Cancer Trust and ABP’s nominated charity of the year, Countess Mountbatten Hospice.
Volunteers will man the several car parks, including ABP’s Dock Gate 4, Ocean Gate and Town Quay, during both weekends of the show (September 13/14 and 20/21) and will charge visitors £10 for a full day parking. Every penny will go to the three charities.
Steve Russell, security officer at the port, has helped to organise the charity car parking for over 12 years.
He said: “I find it more and more enjoyable every year. It is brilliant to be able to raise money for such worthwhile causes with full support and backing from my colleagues.
“I look forward to this year’s show and we hope to top last year’s record-breaking total of over £8,600.”
ABP Director Southampton, Nick Ridehalgh, said: “The PSP Southampton Boat Show is set to welcome a great number of visitors to the city again this year.
“If you’re travelling in by car, why not leave your vehicle here and know that every penny you spend on parking will go to worthy local causes.”
The PSP Southampton Boat Show 2014 will take place from September 12-21.
