A lively debate is expected at the next meeting of the Sussex Property Alliance where the proposed new runway (R2) at Gatwick will be the main topic of discussion.
If R2 is built, it will see the creation of thousands of new jobs directly and indirectly to the great benefit of the local economy in Sussex and the South East. However, as Chris Coopey, Partner at Carpenter Box and compere for the event explains: “There are a number of questions to be answered in relation to the consequences of building that second runway, which includes the plan for relocating the commercial offices and warehousing that will disappear as a consequence of building this major new (and much needed) piece of transport infrastructure.”
The September meeting will be held on 26 September at the Amex Stadium in Brighton and will see Emma Rees, Head of Real Estate at Gatwick Airport talking to Alliance members about progress to date in terms of Gatwick’s bid. Emma will also outline the strategies to be put in place to meet the needs of those businesses whose premises may be displaced as a consequence of this major construction project, which will also include a new terminal building.
No doubt Sussex Property Alliance members made up of builders, developers, investors, architects and other property professionals from across Sussex, will have a number of questions to raise, which should all make for a very interesting meeting.
The Sussex Property Alliance is sponsored by Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisers Carpenter Box, who have a specialist property and construction team, commercial agents Michael Jones, JELF who provide specialist insurance to the sector and by Bennett Griffin solicitors who undertake commercial property work.
