A disused primary school in the heart of Loughborough is to be transformed into a brand new medical facility by local contractor and developer William Davis Ltd, returning the site to its former Victorian glory.
The Grade II listed building, originally built in 1897 to house Rosebery Primary School, will become the new home to Rosebery Medical Centre -part of Charnwood Medical Group, which is relocating one of their current surgeries from nearby Storer Road. When complete the new centre will provide Loughborough with a state-of-the-art doctors’ surgery, consultation rooms, pharmacy and increased patient car parking, at a contract value of over £1m.
A former pupil at the school, Eddie Davis, chairman at William Davis commented: “Today’s start on site has been a trip down memory lane. Since Rosebery School’s closure in 2006, this beautiful building has been in desperate need of regeneration and to see it rejuvanated and restored to its former glory and benefit the local community again, will be a real pleasure.”
Paul Hanlon, business manager, Charnwood Medical Group added: “After over two years of planning it’s fantastic to see work begin on the new medical centre which will provide huge benefits for our patients and the local community. We are delighted to have been able to find a new use for such a magnificent and well-loved building and would like to thank William Davis for all their help in making it happen.”
In addition to the new medical centre, seven, two bedroomed terrace town houses on behalf of Nottingham Community Housing Association will be built within the site. These will be available to rent from July 2012.
