Property consultancy Harris Lamb hosted its first ladies only networking event at its Birmingham office this month.
Thirty ladies attended a lunch at the company’s Francis Road head office to meet business women from the region.
The 90-minute session included a short presentation from Billie Frain, a surveyor from the development team at Calthorpe Estates, whereby she introduced delegates to the business, its history, ethos and proposed changes to the estate.
Suki Kaur, a chartered surveyor at Harris Lamb, organised the event with the support of some of her female colleagues, and said she was delighted with the turnout and feedback.
“Having spoken to a number of female colleagues, clients and contacts, I decided to organise this event as an alternative to the one-to-one lunches or meetings we’re more used to. While so many industry events are geared toward men, with golf days, corporate cricket days and so on, the feedback I received was that there weren’t enough events aimed at professional women.
“We chose to host the first event ourselves to welcome guests to our offices and to ensure our female colleagues could all attend, and we were delighted with the number of people who joined us. In addition to being an opportunity for these women to make contact with one another, Billie’s presentation really impressed delegates, many of whom knew of the estate but weren’t aware of its history or the huge advances made in recent years.
“Already, guests have expressed an interest in presenting at a future event and we’re hoping to make this a regular event in people’s diary,” she added.
