Boom Pictures and Sequence – two major players in the creative industry sector in Wales – are to become the first tenants at GloWorks – the Welsh Government’s new flagship centre located on the waterfront in the heart of Porth Teigr, Cardiff Bay.
Boom Pictures is taking over the top three floors to house 110 staff while Sequence is taking over the second floor to accommodate fifty staff members.
It means office accommodation at the new centre which officially opens this Autumn is now 80% full.
GloWorks is the Welsh Government’s new hub for the creative industries and the 32,000 sq ft development is directly opposite Roath Lock Studios, the BBC’s 170,000 sq ft drama production studio complex in Porth Teigr.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “I am delighted to welcome Boom Pictures and Sequence as the first tenants for GloWorks.
Both are made in Wales success stories, nurturing local talent, employing local people and making an important contribution to the sector in Wales and the wider Welsh economy .
“We have incredibly talented dynamic creative businesses in Wales and our investment in GloWorks is designed to support the sustainable growth of the sector.
“We want to develop a strong and thriving cluster of creative businesses and this new centre will provide a collaborative, connected environment and a superb location for companies working across the sector to grow their business. “
The main strategic goal of GloWorks is to bring together independent creative businesses alongside BBC Roath Lock Studios and ITV Wales in Cardiff Bay, providing opportunities for growth through networking, collaboration and broadcaster commissioning, and creating a focal point for inward investment in the Welsh creative sector.
It offers space for creative businesses and start-ups to work more closely together and create new job opportunities for young talent in Wales. Discussions are currently underway with a diverse range of businesses in the TV, digital media and wider creative industries for flexible office accommodation available on the first floor for smaller businesses.
Boom Pictures Co-founder, Huw Eurig Davies said,
“ I am extremely pleased that we are moving our headquarters to the GloWorks. Boom Pictures employs some of the most talented individuals in the creative sector, producing high quality and outstanding content for Welsh, UK and international broadcasters and clients. To be located at this exciting new development will undoubtedly be a further boost to our company’s creativity and long-term success. “
Paul Thomas, Director of Sales & Marketing at Sequence said:
“ I congratulate the Welsh Government on taking the initiative to invest in this centre to bring together independent creative businesses alongside the BBC and ITV Wales to provide a strong focus for growth.
“I am delighted to be part of this new project and feel this is a great move for our business. I am quite confident we will benefit from being part of the growing Porth Teigr creative community and the business networking and collaborative opportunities it presents.
“We anticipate that the move will help us grow the business with the potential to create more jobs and attract the best talent in the area.”
Mark Sutton Associate at Knight Frank, Welsh Governments agents for the building, said:
“GloWorks is a high quality offering for occupiers in a superb waterside location. The strength of our creative sector has been reflected in the level of enquiries in the building and, as occupiers have been able to experience the finished product for themselves, the interest has snowballed. We are in discussions with potential tenants regarding the remaining accommodation.”
