Packaging Coordinators, Inc. (PCI) – one of the latest companies to be awarded anchor company status by the Welsh Government – has created more than 90 jobs in the last year and is still recruiting.
PCI is a global leader for packaging services, supporting both pharmaceutical and biotech customers in each stage of the development and commercialisation of drug products. In addition to packaging services, PCI provides global storage and distribution services for clinical trial materials.
As a global organisation, PCI operates four clinical and commercial sites in Wales, with eleven facilities in three locations throughout the United States.
Due to continued business growth, PCI is continually investing in its global facilities and resource to ensure delivery of an unparalleled customer experience. Both the US and UK sites have seen major expansion over the last six months, with the UK site recently announcing the completion of an expansion to its on-site Cold Chain packaging and storage capabilities.
Coupled with the facility expansions, since April 2013 PCI (formerly AndersonBrecon UK) has created 93 new jobs at their Hay on Wye facility, bringing staff numbers up to 385. Continued growth means this is expected to rise to 400 by the end of 2014.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:” PCI is one of the largest private sector employers in Mid Wales and makes a significant contribution to the Welsh economy. I am delighted the company has been awarded anchor company status in recognition of this contribution.
“The Welsh Government is focussed on continuing to support all anchor companies across Wales, growing their jobs and wealth to the benefit of the Welsh economy.
“It is therefore particularly good news to hear that PCI – which operates in one of our priority economic sectors – is creating jobs and continues to invest in Wales.”
The Hay-on-Wye based business has seen significant investment over the last two years with the opening of new 23,000 sq. ft. storage and distribution facility in Treforest and a 4000 sq. ft. Speciality Pharmaceutical packaging suite in Talgarth.
Dr Sue Miles, Managing Director at PCI said “We are delighted to have been awarded anchor company status and look forward to continue working closely with the Welsh Government.
“We are still recruiting and keen to attract local talent. PCI is totally committed to developing and training staff and have an award winning apprentice training programme and are accredited as an Investor in People.
“We have had considerable investment for developing and training our workforce from our parent company which has been backed by generous funding from the Welsh Government.”
