Two former vehicle dealerships in Digbeth are being put to good use as a new training facility for students from South Birmingham College.
The College has converted the former Hartwell showrooms on the High Street into a new campus called the Fusion Centre, which will accommodate its fashion and textiles, performing arts and hair and barbering courses. There will also be a warehousing, logistics and forklift truck training centre on site.
In addition, the main reception has a Costa coffee shop, which is open to the general public, as well as the students.
Work to convert the buildings took place during the summer and was part of a £2.5 million investment by South Birmingham College to improve its campuses and facilities.
Property consultants Colliers International advised Hartwell plc on the lettings.
John Roberts, a director in Colliers International’s Automotive and Roadside team in Birmingham, said: “It’s great to see the buildings being put to good use by South Birmingham College. The close proximity of the buildings to the College’s main campus on Digbeth High Street was a key factor in the deal.”
Mike Hopkins, principal at South Birmingham College, said: “We are very lucky that in a time of austerity we have been able to make such a significant capital investment in our estate. These works will improve the students’ experience at the College and will continue to ensure that South Birmingham College is a top choice for people looking to study in the region and beyond.”
