Yellow Buses has invested nearly £1m in five brand new double-decker buses ready for another busy summer.
Following sustained business growth, the Bournemouth-based company ordered the Volvo Wright Gemini double-deckers, which will have the distinctive Yellow Buses livery.
They will be rolled out onto routes across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch areas within days.
This purchase brings the number of vehicles in Yellows’ growing fleet to over 150 and follows a £1.4m investment already this year on ten new StreetLite Max single-deckers.
Mark Ambler, Yellows’ Head of Network Development, said: “With consistent growth we were able to commit to buying five new double-decker buses as we head into another very busy summer.
“Having put the order in just a few weeks ago they are already going into service to satisfy our increasing number of passenger trips.
“The Yellows carry more than 15 million passengers a year and the demand grows in the summer due to tourism.”
Confidence to buy the new buses was boosted by the local authorities’ investment in the Three Towns Travel and the Better Bus Area Fund projects, which Yellow Buses partner.
Andrew Smith, Managing Director, said “The investment was made easier by the local authorities’ commitment to bus travel in the Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and East Dorset areas.
“With our buses travelling nearly five million miles every year it’s important to keep our fleet up to date.
“We look forward to passengers joining us on our new double-deckers when they travel with the Yellows.”
