Elite Precast Concrete in Telford has signed up for a further 6,712 sq ft of space at Nurton Development’s Telford, Halesfield 9 industrial estate, taking its total space to 32,000 sq ft as it continues to grow the business.
Employing nearly 50 people locally, the Shropshire based company, which was founded in 2008, says its success is in part down to a successful landlord, tenant relationship and an agent who does its homework as Owen Batham explains:
“We’re a company that has never relied on banks. We set up during the economic downturn and all our growth has been organic and self generated, through gradually building up our customer base and ploughing back the profits. We needed a landlord which was realistic and flexible and not too bureaucractic, listening to our needs and I guess seeing the bigger picture and realising they stood to benefit as we grew.
“We’re turning over £5million now and our business is built very much on gut feel and working with people we believe we can trust. We’ve certainly had no cause for complaint with Nurton and the local agents, Andrew Dixon & Co, have taken the time to understand our business and intuitively seem to know when we need more space.
“We moved to Halesfield 9 from Much Wenlock originally and we did look at quite a few schemes before settling for this one, but Halesfield 9 offered the visibility and as I said Nurton took the long term view and structured a deal that worked for us at the time. It wasn’t like dealing with a pension fund or an organisation, which is very removed from the situation. A personal one-to-one relationship was really key for us.”
Elite specialises in precast concrete blocks for a wide range of innovative uses and supplied all the specially-cast counterweights to keep 30 kilometres of perimeter and crowd control fencing in place at the Olympic Stadium during the 2012 games,
Keith Simkins from Nurton Developments added: “Elite have shown true British business grit. They set up in some of the most challenging economic conditions and have come out as a stronger and more resilient company. I’d like to think we have in some part helped them along their way. They know what they want and where they are going as a business and their straight talking made negotiations simple and quick which is better for all parties.”
Whilst Halesfield 9 is now fully let, Nurton Developments still has a number of units remaining at its Harcourt Trading Estate in Telford at Halesfield 13, which recently signed up Alliance Healthcare.
Andrew Dixon & Co is a joint agent for Nurton on the Halesfield 9 and Harcourt Trading Estate site, with Wolverhampton and Telford-based Bulleys.
