Scores of business people at St. Modwen’s £100 million Longbridge Technology Park stopped off at an event highlighting the benefits of walking, cycling or catching the bus or train for their daily commute.
Transport specialist BikeRight!, Centro, HealthExchange and National Express all hosted stands at the event – which aimed to encourage workers to use sustainable modes of travel that reduce carbon emissions and congestion while promoting good health.
Visitors also had the chance to pedal themselves a fresh fruit drink on a smoothie bike, climb aboard a National Express hybrid bus, take part in a travel-to-work art project by Longbridge Public Art Project, enjoy an ice cream, taste specialist coffee from Longbridge’s own Ashton Levi coffee shop and chat to representatives of iON Cameras, and Viva Travel.
The event coincided with the launch of Longbridge Technology Park’s new travel plan, the long term management strategy promoting sustainable transport and good health across the site. It also highlights the wide range of transport links available at Longbridge and comes as St. Modwen and the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership launch plans to invest in a multimillion pound Longbridge Connectivity enhancement package that will include a rail station upgrade, cycle link scheme, bus interchange and park and ride facilities.
The transport event also marked the seventh birthday of the Innovation Centre – the flagship building at Longbridge Technology Park which is home to nearly 50 technology – based local, national and international businesses.
Innovation Centre Manager James Teal said: “Around 70 workers from across the Technology Park called into the event which is very encouraging. We hope we have highlighted the benefits of leaving their cars at home and using smarter methods of transport that are kinder to their health, purse strings and the environment.”
