A Nottingham based team is power boating around the entire coastline of Britain to raise funds for two charities and is being backed by a local underfloor heating supplier.
Rodger Towers and his team mates , will take to the wheel in The Round Britain 999 Coastal Challenge 2014 to raise funds for both Watersafe UK Search and Rescue Team (WUKSART) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) by conquering 1,999 miles of British coastline in just 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes.
The event, which will see Rodger a local paramedic and nine other operational members of the team embark on the gruelling challenge in June this year, and is supported by Hucknall based Floor Heating Systems Ltd, one of the UK’s largest specialist manufacturers and suppliers of electric underfloor heating systems.
Andrew Dye, Director of Floor Heating Systems Ltd, said: “It is with great pride that we are able to sponsor the event Rodger is taking part in- a real celebration for the people of Nottingham.
“This is the second time Rodger has attempted this challenge, last year he was scuppered in his plans for success after his boat unexpectedly sank, so we wish the team all the luck in the world”
The team will man the sails from the RNLI Lifeboat Headquarters in Poole and head in a clockwise direction along the British coastline, stopping off at certain RNLI lifeboat stations before completing the journey, ceasing in Poole.
The team aim to raise awareness and a minimum of £50,000 for the RNLI and WUKSART in the most challenging project to date- totally alone in British waters.
Andrew Dye, from the company which provide underfloor heating installations, underfloor heating kits and cable kits, added: “We have known Rodger for many years, both personally and professionally, and hope that the people of Nottingham will really rally round in order to support these worthy causes”
