Plans are being drawn up to open more self-storage locations across the South West to cope with a growing demand from householders and businesses.
UK Storage, which opened its first facility in Bridgwater in 2005, has appointed property agents Bruton Knowles to find new locations in key areas across the region.
In nine years UK Storage has opened facilities in Bristol, Chard, Taunton and Plymouth in addition to its original site in Bridgwater. A new storage facility has also opened in Gloucester.
Will Nell of Bruton Knowles said: “There is a need for more storage facilities in the West and we have just acquired a site in Redruth for UK Storage. We will be looking for other suitable sites from Birmingham down to the tip of Cornwall.
“The real demand is for household storage with many people using these facilities now as a cost-effective way to free up space at home. There is also a growing demand from small businesses that can use the units to store stock or equipment in a cost-effective way before expanding into a unit of their own.
“Other businesses use the storage facilities as a temporary solution to a problem, but then find it is so useful they keep the unit for a longer period.”
John Lamb of UK Storage said: “We have asked Bruton Knowles to look at strategic locations for storage sites. We know from experience that there is demand and so we are looking at particular communities that will benefit across the region.
“At the moment our Bristol storage sites serve a large area, with enquiries coming in from all over the South West, it seems people are prepared to travel if the cost of our storage is right.
“At our facility in Avonmouth we have customers storing from west Bristol but also Chepstow, Yate, Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea and closer to home, Westbury-on-Trym, Lawrence Weston and Shirehampton.
“The Bristol central site at Bedminster understandably gets a lot more enquiries from more central areas with customers in city centre areas enjoying a bit more space at home but still wanting to be close to their possessions.
“Our aim is to offer flexible storage solutions where you can trust your goods will be safe and secure until you need them again. Security is extremely important to us. All our locations have recorded digital security cameras throughout the facility and have high perimeter fencing to give peace of mind.”
UK Storage also provide a fully managed document storage service with database tracking of boxes and a retrieval / collection service including free initial collection of the boxes.
Said John Lamb: “We are working with Bruton Knowles because they are a good fit with us. Both companies are looking to expand in the South West and both have locations in similar locations such as Taunton, Bristol, Plymouth and now Gloucester. Will Nell has a history of bringing properties to the table and making the deals happen.”
