A chartered surveyor at Harris Lamb has been awarded her MRICS qualification, 11 years after starting with the business as a receptionist.
Suki Kaur began working part time with at the agency’s Birmingham office in 2003 while studying for a law degree, and quickly discovered a passion for commercial property, supporting her colleagues to learn more about the business.
Suki said: “I worked my way up gradually, first of all talking to clients and supporting the senior team, and taking more of an interest in the day-to-day running of the agency. On completing my degree, I took on a graduate role within the planning department.
“A year later, I began to study for my RICS qualification, and Harris Lamb offered to fund it and provide in-house training to help me achieve it and further my career.
“The directors are very committed to investing in, and helping to develop the skills of the team, and their support was invaluable in gaining the experience and expertise required to fulfil that ambition,” she added.
Patrick Downes, head of planning at Harris Lamb, said: “Suki is a real inspiration and a credit to us. Her determination in learning about the industry and working her way up from reception to a valued part of the planning team is a credit to her and she’s a real asset to the business.
“We have a long history of supporting and developing our employees to help them achieve their MRICS qualification, and we’re incredibly proud that Suki is our latest success story. Her standards of work will add to the high customer service record that Harris Lamb strives to deliver. She will continue to work with us in planning, taking a more central role within the department.”
Suki qualified just two weeks after her colleague Alex Eagleton, who joined the business in 2012 after graduating from Sheffield University.
