JLL team to tackle gruelling trek for charity

A 10-strong team from leading property consultancy JLL’s Bristol office is gearing up to take on a 54-mile trek in 24 hours, to raise money for a Bristol children’s charity.

The trekking challenge, known as TrekFest, takes place in the Brecon Beacons on 7 & 8 June including overnight. The JLL team, which has just returned from a training exercise this weekend (see images) is seeking sponsorship to support the Bristol Under Privileged Children’s Charity (BUPCC).

BUPCC, which is JLL Bristol’s chosen charity for 2014, raises money to help children who live within a 25-mile radius of Bristol city centre and are living in conditions of need, hardship or distress. Donated funds help these children improve their quality of life.

The route through the Brecon Beacons in South Wales will be a physically and psychologically taxing challenge; this well-known national park is, after all, the training ground of the SAS.

The team will walk non-stop over a 24 hour period, crossing the highest peaks in the Beacons and South Wales including Pen y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m).

Ricky Jones, chartered surveyor and associate director at JLL in Bristol, said:

“TrekFest is no mean feat; 54 miles across the highest peaks in the Beacons in just 24 hours will be tough. And if that isn’t challenge enough, we will be carrying all our food and water with us en route.

“But it will all be worth it as we will be making a real impact on the lives of vulnerable children in the local area by raising funds for BUPCC. We hope that the people of Bristol will get behind this worthwhile cause and support us in our fundraising efforts.”

This weekend’s training exercise (May 24) saw half the team walk 22 miles to Porth Cawl from Aberthaw Power Station and the other half walk the Strawberry Line route from Yatton to Cheddar and back in preparation for the big event.
