A member of Southampton’s professional services community is among just 100 people in the UK to qualify this year following exam success in insolvency law and practice.
Garry Lee, manager in the restructuring and recovery services team at the South Coast office of accountancy and investment management group Smith & Williamson, has passed the Joint Insolvency Board Examinations (JIEB).
He achieved first-time passes in all three papers.
Greg Palfrey, Smith & Williamson’s head of restructuring and recovery for the regions, said: “The JIEB is a professional qualification of the highest standard and Garry’s achievement, underpinned by excellent technical knowledge in a heavily regulated environment, is well deserved.
“With only 100 people in the UK qualifying at the last JIEB sitting, it illustrates how specialised this sector is.”
Garry, who joined Smith & Williamson eight years ago and lives near Southampton, said: “The recovering economy is excellent news but there are still financially troubled companies and individuals requiring strategic input to ensure the best outcomes for everyone concerned.
“Having now completed these exams I’m looking forward to combining this knowledge with my previous audit and accountancy experience to give focused strategic advice that these companies and individuals need. Much of our work now is focused on how to turn companies around and support directors and business owners in this regard.”
