East Midlands-based resource management and recycling specialists Wastecycle have stepped in to help with an inspirational garden makeover scheme for a five-year-old girl with an incurable disease.
For the second year running, Wastecycle have teamed up with Barnardos for a heart-warming charity challenge – this time to support little Maddie Sherwood, of East Leake, who suffers from a rare inherited muscle and respiratory condition.
The project, headed up by Nottingham-based Kier Construction, involves transforming the garden at Maddie’s home by digging up turf, creating new paths and levelling it off so that she can access it safely with her wheelchair.
Wastecycle have provided skips and bins to collect all waste from the project completely free of charge.
Maddie, the youngest of four children, suffers from a disease called Smard1 – an extremely rare disorder which is believed to affect just 60 people worldwide.
Her condition does not prevent her from enjoying her time outdoors and she loves being in the garden – so the improvements will greatly enhance her quality of life.
Mick Roots, business development executive at Wastecycle said: “We’re very proud to be involved in another fantastic project with Barnardos. Hopefully it’ll be as successful as last years, and we look forward to being part of any future schemes.”
The work began in early April so that Maddie can have full, safe use of the garden in spring and summer.
