A waste management boss in Hampshire has raised £2,350 in memory of his father and the charity which is seeking a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
John Gosling, managing director of the TJ Group, which has 135 staff and is headquartered at Fareham, near Portsmouth, was among 100 runners aiming to break a £75,000 target for Parkinson’s UK in the 26.2-mile Brighton Marathon earlier this month (April).
The 47-year-old said: “I would like give 2,350 thank-you’s to everyone who made donations. I successfully completed the marathon in a personal best of 3 hours 26 minutes, which made all the hours of training worthwhile.”
According to Parkinson’s UK, someone in the UK is told every hour they have the neurological disease which progressively impairs movement, body co-ordination and speech.
John’s father, David Gosling, passed away two and a half years ago, aged 78. He is pictured here with grandson Harvey, John’s youngest child, now 10.
Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. But our work is totally dependent on donations.”
