ONE OF THE largest construction companies in Wales has won three awards at a nationally recognised ceremony that celebrates excellence in building practice.
Jehu Project Services, part of the Jehu Group,picked up awards for, ‘Best Large Commercial Project’, ‘Best Social New Housing Development’and ‘Best Site Manager’ at the Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s annual Building Excellence Awards 2014.
Local authority Building Excellence Awards are held nationwide and aim to reward companies that demonstrate high quality building practice.
Following its win, Jehu Project Services will now represent the county in the regional awards in Cardiff later this year, competing against schemes from local authorities across Wales. If successful, the company will progress to the national award ceremony held in London.
The £3m project for Neath Port Talbot Homes, which won ‘Best Large Commercial Project’, involved designing and building the organisation’s new 22,000 square foot headquarters at Baglan Energy Park, Swansea. The three-storey steel framed head office was designed to incorporate sustainable features, including natural ventilation and a rainwater harvesting system.
Jehu Project Services was recognised for excellence across two different developments. Its £3.5m Customs House project for Coastal Housing Group, which won ‘Best Social New Housing Development’, involved the construction of a new four-storey timber framed building comprising of 46 one and two bedroom apartments.

“Our Site Manager Nyron Wood had a great deal to do with the success of the project at Customs House and developed a close working relationship with Gwyn Aubrey, Senior Building Control Officer at Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
“Working on the Neath Port Talbot Homes project with a close knit, creative and dedicated team was a pleasure and I’m really pleased all our hard work has been acknowledged by a highly regarded professional body.”

Nyron Wood said: “I’ve worked at Jehu for two decades and never imagined I’d win an award like this. There are so many talented site managers in our local area, so this is the highlight of my career so far.
“The Royal Buildings project has been one of my most successful projects, and whilst every new building produces its challenges, this one was incredibly enjoyable due to the professional and enthusiastic team on site.
“Our expertise has undoubtedly contributed to our success – Jehu have over 70 years of experience of construction in Wales and are consistently reviewing the way we do things to ensure we are working to the highest standards for our customers.
