A planning application has been submitted today for a £10 million landmark retail scheme in Daleside Road, Nottingham – which will breathe new life into the area and create up to 200 jobs.
The submission by Cedar House Investments, one of the region’s leading developers, sets out plans to transform the five-acre site – formerly the Sunlight Laundry on the outskirts of Sneinton.
Called East Point, the site has attracted Aldi, which will be the anchor retailer, taking up 16,500 sq ft unit. There will be a further 30,000 sq ft of retail space and 5,330 sq ft of ancillary use and restaurants.
Peter Gadsby, Cedar House chairman, said: “This scheme will further facilitate investment in Waterside. The ambitious retail development we are proposing is much needed for the people of Sneinton to inject vibrancy into the area.
“We believe the scheme will help with the transformation of Waterside and will complement the new £26 million housing development close by.”
The scheme of 160 houses, put together by the Homes and Communities Agency and specialist developer Blueprint, is the first phase of what is intended to be a new neighbourhood of up to 3,000 homes between Trent Bridge and Colwick.
“The retail scheme – which will help form a gateway to the Waterside into the city – along with the housing development will transform part of the city’s waterside into a new community,” added Peter.
“Today’s planning application, follows a detailed public consultation and extensive discussions with planners and local residents. The opportunity for the creation of jobs for local people will be actively encouraged both during construction and once the scheme opens when we expect there to be up to 200 new jobs.”
The retail scheme is expected to attract other high-quality occupiers to Waterside, he added.
“The combination of the housing scheme and the East Point Gateway sites are the major catalysts needed for the redevelopment and regeneration of this are of Nottingham,” added Peter.
