Lincoln-based chartered surveyor Banks Long & Co today announced its success in finding a key site for retained client, Savoy Cinemas.
Banks Long & Co has negotiated a deal with Mulberry Property Developments Ltd which will allow Savoy Cinemas to operate a new six-screen, state-of-the-art, cinema in the centre of Corby, Northants.
The investment signals new jobs, but there could be more good news on the horizon because ambitious Savoy Cinemas reports that it is looking at a number of other sites across the Midlands and North.
Savoy Cinemas Managing Director James Collington has now signed with Mulberry Property Developments to deliver the state-of-the-art complex on the former site of Tresham College in Corby.
This announcement gives the green light to contractors to make an immediate start on the currently disused site and transform it to create a long-awaited entertainments hub for the area.
Savoy’s newest project complements its current portfolio of cinemas in Nottingham, Worksop and Boston.
Mr Collington said the Corby site presents an exciting opportunity for Savoy Cinemas to bring a high quality entertainment facility to the area for the community to enjoy.
The Corby venue, which should be completed in early 2015 and create 20 new jobs, will be capable of seating more than 900 people across six wall-to-wall screens, presenting both 2D and 3D films.
The cinema will be fully digital and fitted out with the latest audio-visual technology and it will showcase the very latest blockbusters in the height of luxury, comfort and style.
“Detail planning consent is in place, so the cinema will be operational from the start of 2015 – a bumper year in cinema with the release of Avengers 2, Star Wars Episode 7 and Bond 24.”
Banks Long & Co Director Tim Bradford said: “Now is the ideal time for Savoy Cinemas, which is an independent-chain, to be building its brand through expansion.
“We have been tasked with finding prime sites within towns and cities, or even
quality edge-of-town locations, for this purpose and we are delighted to have
made such a great start by securing Corby.
“Ultimately, Mr Collington is looking at opportunities within the Midlands and
Northern England, which are within a 100-miles radius of Nottingham,” said Mr
Bradford.
“In the medium-to-longer term, Savoy Cinemas is keen to have up to a dozen venues, so I would welcome further interest from land and property owners,
who have plans for a cinema within their scheme or town.”
Mulberry Developments Chairman Robert Wilkinson said building work is due
to begin on site within the next couple of weeks.
“We’re delighted to be working with Savoy Cinemas on this exciting development.
The company has a strong reputation and we’re confident that Savoy will offer
a multiplex of a quality that surpasses anything in this area, while providing
value for money for the people of Corby.”
Three national restaurant operators, whose names have still to be announced,
will also be featured in the Corby site.
