Manchester Metropolitan University have chosen HBCC (a joint venture between Henry Boot and Capital & Centric) as the preferred purchaser for their Aytoun Street Campus.
The campus, previously home to the University’s Business School, became surplus following the completion of the new Business School at All Saints. The Joint Venture partnership has been selected out of the original 19 ‘Expressions of Interest’ and following detailed submissions by 5 developers.
HBCC are proposing a mixed-use scheme involving a refurbishment of the two listed buildings, Minto and Turner and Minshull House, with a redevelopment of the remainder of the site. The proposed scheme will comprise a total of approximately 450,000 sq ft with a likely mix of residential, leisure and hotel use.
John Cunningham at MMU commented: “We were impressed by the approach to the development of the site taken by HBCC and are confident that they will show the necessary application and persistence to work through the various challenges necessary to undertake a successful redevelopment of the site. The final scheme will make a positive contribution to this part of the Manchester City Centre.”
