Nottingham firm of architects CPMG is celebrating following the news that a building it has designed has achieved the highest BREEAM scoring in the healthcare sector in the UK, signifying a highly environmentally friendly and sustainable building project and making it the winner of a BREEAM Excellence Award.
A score of 78.81% was awarded to the new Elective Orthopaedic Theatre building at Nottingham City Hospital that CPMG designed, scoring higher than four rival healthcare schemes that had also been short listed. CPMG are one of three Nottingham-based companies who worked on the project; BWB were the structural and civil engineering consultants and Gleeds were the BREEAM assessors and cost consultants working for Interserve Construction under their 5 year ProCure 21+ Framework for the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.
Key BREEAM features of the project include life cycle cost planning; reduced carbon emissions through improved insulation, lighting and zero carbon technology; low impact construction materials and improved amenity access.
“The outstanding quality of this year’s winning projects has set the sustainable development bar even higher,” said Gavin Dunn, Director of BREEAM. “They are not only testament to incredible technological ingenuity but also to the resourcefulness and vision of the teams that brought them to life and their ability to put people at their heart.”
“It’s great to be given such a high rating from BREEAM, it’s not the easiest of achievements to attain,” said Anil Parmar, Group Director at CPMG. “Being part of a project with integrated teamwork with the client, design team and contractor lead to the award and we hope we can repeat some of this success in the future.”
