St. Ann’s Valley Centre, designed by Nottingham based architecture firm CPMG and built by Willmott Dixon, was the recipient of a commendation at this year’s national Civic Trust Awards – the only building from the East Midlands to be recognised.
The centre, which provides a hub of services including three GP practices, a library and a pharmacy, was praised for offering easy and convenient access to all members of the local community.
As a scheme, the centre is the first phase of a larger, more challenging regeneration project taking place in Nottingham’s inner city neighbourhoods.
The design of the centre was developed on the premise of delivering co-located community services within a single building in order to make healthcare and library facilities easily accessible to the local community.
“The commendation is fantastic, and we are absolutely thrilled to have won such a prestigious award,” said David Shaw, Associate of CPMG. “Working with our clients (Nottingham City Council and Nottingham NHS) we wanted to design a building that provided a strong community focal point, and winning this award tells us that we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.”

Held this year at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, the Civic Trust Awards were first established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment. The event was their 55th annual ceremony and saw 79 national and international projects rewarded with a Civic Trust Award, Commendation or Community Recognition Award.
Commendations are handed out to projects that make a significant contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment, taking into account sustainability, inclusive design and economic benefit to the local community.
