BDO’s Southampton office has promoted James Tetley to Tax Director, as part of its continued investment in people and growth of the tax practice in Southampton.
James joined accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP in 2007 having qualified in London.
He specialises in advising companies on R&D tax relief and other incentives for companies that innovate in the UK, and has supported tax partner Stuart Lisle in building the Southampton office as a national centre of excellence for R&D tax advice.
In the past two years, he has successfully helped clients across a diverse range of sectors to make claims in excess of £100m for R&D tax relief, to support their continued investment in UK based research and development. “James has been absolutely key to the success of our R&D practice. Our clients have been delighted with the immediate benefits that he can bring to them,” explained Stuart Lisle.
James also leads the Southampton office’s marine sector, advising local marina operators, superyacht manufacturers, marine component manufacturers and naval architects, and brings significant depth of sector expertise to his work here.
“The Central South region is a really exciting place to be working at the moment”, says James. “In the past 12 months, I have seen clients begin to grasp the green shoots of recovery, embarking on some ambitious projects – with this comes the need for proactive, commercial tax advice, which is exactly what I enjoy providing.”
Partner Stuart Lisle added: “BDO is totally committed to the Central South region and we are continually looking to build and develop our teams, now having 50 tax professionals, including three partners, based out of our Southampton office. James is a typical example of the sort of talent that we have available for our clients.”
