Midlands-based building contractor G F Tomlinson has been awarded a further £33 million of contract works by public sector construction procurement, design and consultation specialists Scape.
G F Tomlinson’s latest win is for the empa (East Midlands Property Alliance) minor works framework contracts. The company has secured a £12m contract to cover work valued at between £50k and £350k in Derbyshire and Staffordshire Moorlands. The firm has also won a £21m contract for work valued between £350k and £2m in Leicestershire.
G F Tomlinson is one of seven building firms to have been awarded a share of £140m minor works contracts in the wider east midlands. The contracts are split into sub-regions to enable a more locally focussed delivery team.
The contracts run for a period of four years, starting immediately, and are the last in a series of empa contracts awarded in early 2014.
The aim of empa, which is managed by Scape, is to improve the procurement and delivery of construction projects and property maintenance for local authorities saving time and money for them and their council taxpayers.
The news comes just weeks after G F Tomlinson was awarded a £68m share of empa’s Intermediate framework.
Stuart Lawrence, managing director at G F Tomlinson, said: “To have been awarded empa framework contracts worth more than £100m combined within a matter of weeks is really fantastic news and a credit to the hard work by the team here.
“Scape’s frameworks are continuing to provide an increasing number of public sector clients with high quality construction work which saves them time and money and we are delighted to be part of this going forward.”
The empa framework contracts cover work for clients on all types of public sector buildings including schools, colleges, universities, housing, NHS, care homes, leisure facilities, libraries and many more.
Head of empa Alan Coole said: “The constraints on the finances of public sector bodies remain a firm reality, making it so important that they receive value for money from their construction projects.
“Contracts are secured through our extremely robust tender processes, so our clients can rest assured that their projects will be delivered on budget, on time and to a high standard. The firms we have selected put forward excellent submissions and I would like to congratulate them on their success.”
Scape operates regional frameworks across the wider East Midlands on behalf of empa and its members. Separate Scape frameworks operate nationally including Major Works; Minor Works; Asset Management, Surveying and Design Services and Project Management and Quantity Surveying. The total value of Scape’s frameworks comes to more than £2.5bn.
The awarding of the minor works contracts follows previous recent awards for empa’s Provincial and two Intermediate frameworks.
