Superfast broadband rollout welcomed by Worcestershire LEP

Worcestershire LEP has welcomed recent announcements and progress being made regarding the rollout of superfast broadband throughout the county.

A target of 90% of county premises to receive superfast by 2016 has been set by ‘Superfast Worcestershire’ – a partnership between Worcestershire County Council and BT, with support from the Local Government family. Nearly 55,000 businesses and homes will benefit from the rollout, once completed.

Gary Woodman, Executive Director of Worcestershire LEP, attending the Superfast Worcestershire Launch Event on 27 January said: “Being able to access superfast broadband will offer huge benefits for Worcestershire businesses. Faster speeds will enable information to be sent and received more quickly and reliably, enabling county businesses – including those in rural areas – to compete more effectively in national and international markets.”

He continued: “The ability to offer superfast broadband is central to our strategy for Worcestershire’s future economic growth. Attracting investment to the county and retaining and growing existing businesses is contingent upon the availability of world class technology. As such, we welcome the commitment by the County Council, BT and the Local Government family to investing a total of more than £16 million towards the development of the necessary infrastructure.”
