Former business editor James Tourgout has joined Deep South Media (DSM) as an account director.
His appointment brings the number of professional journalists working in the firm’s PR division to six.
James spent 18 years writing for the Dorset Echo and associated titles, latterly as deputy news editor.
He has worked in Weymouth, Dorchester and Bridport and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
In his new role he will be providing press office, communications and PR support for clients across the South and the West Country.
James, who lives in Weymouth, said: “I have joined Deep South Media at just the right time.
“The company is growing and I am looking forward to contributing to that continuing success.
“Everyone at Deep South Media has great experience, enthusiasm and expertise.”
DSM managing director and founder Gareth Weekes said: “In our experience trained and qualified journalists make the best communicators for our clients, who all have exacting standards and are often leaders in their fields.
“James is a great addition to the Deep South team and we’re very pleased to have him on board as we continue to expand organically across southern England.”
Founded in 1998, DSM’s PR division was launched in 2005. It now has 33 retained clients including lawyers, accountants, real estate consultancies, civil engineers, water and transport companies, schools and councils.
The company specialises in multi-media content, reputation management, design, stakeholder engagement and press office activities.
