Businesses in Newport are being invited to join a special event on the future of the city, at the Celtic Manor on Wednesday November 27.
Super Connected Newport, which is being hosted by Newport Unlimited and the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, will bring together key organisations to update businesses on the latest developments in the city, and how they will be able to benefit in the long term.
The event will include presentations from Newport City Council, who will give an overview of the city’s regeneration programme, and the developer Queensberry will deliver the latest on Friars Walk.
Newport Unlimited will be outlining proposals for an electric car scheme for Newport, an idea which was suggested as part of the proposed sustainable suburb at Old Town Dock and generated a lot of interest from businesses due to the potential to save on transport costs.
There will also be an update on the Super Connected Cities project that is aiming to get as many businesses as possible to take advantage of a voucher scheme that will cover all or part of the cost required to access Superfast Broadband, which should be in place in Newport by 2015.
Hamish Munro, head of regeneration at Newport Unlimited, said: “This time last year we held a special event for businesses to keep them updated with the many developments across the city, and the response we had was fantastic. There is a real appetite out there for information and this event will bring businesses up-to-speed with some of the major projects and developments that are taking place in Newport, and help them to understand how they will ultimately stand to benefit.
“Despite the challenges that we face, there is a lot happening in Newport that we should be positive about and I would encourage as many businesses to get in touch and book their place.”
