The site of the former Renault dealership on Priory Crescent in Southend will soon be redeveloped. The site has sat empty since the business was forced to relocate in 2008 as part of an abandoned widening scheme on the A127.
Previously, the site was due to be redeveloped as a self-storage operator but after that deal fell through, the marketing agents Rapleys were able to negotiate a deal with Marston’s Taverns and Inns to build their latest public house and restaurant on the site.
The site is adjacent to the burial site of an Ancient East Saxon King, believed to be King Seabert (C.597-616) and numerous golden artefacts have been found leading to the graves occupant to be nicknamed the “King of Bling”
Mark Frostick of Rapleys commented. “Once the site had been severely damaged by a fire, the site had to be demolished and it required a company with a new vision for the site to develop it for a new use. We had interest from a wide range of occupiers and we were looking for a party that could build out something suitable for the location. The final building will be fit for a king!”
