Portsmouth City Council will join more than 30 businesses and entrepreneurs from around the city to launch Global Entrepreneurship Week, 18-24 November.
The goal of the week is to promote entrepreneurship, which creates jobs and, in turn, stimulates business in Portsmouth and The Solent.
This collaborative community of businesses and entrepreneurs, called Entrepreneurs Unite, will kick off a week of 54 confirmed events around the city on 18 November with the third Shaping Portsmouth Conference, an all-day event at the Portsmouth Guildhall from 9:00 am for 9:30 to 3:30 pm. David Williams, chief executive of the council, and Kathy Wadsworth, director of regeneration at the council, will speak at the event.
The agenda for the conference includes key note speakers and presentations from Iain Morgan, CEO of Bladez Toyz; Graham Galbraith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth; Mike Clare, CEO of Clarenco; and Andrew Gadsden, founder of All About Tea. Attendees will have opportunities to network and visit stands.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Lynne Stagg will be presenting the first ever Shaping Portsmouth Awards, with the focus this year on entrepreneurship.

On 22 November, David Williams and Kathy Wadsworth will also be presenting and joining the Leader of Portsmouth City Council, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson in conversations with the UK’s top business angels about supporting private investment into the city at the Solent Innovation and Business Angels Conference. Angel investors have a key role in today’s marketplace as a significant source of funding for start-ups and early-stage growth-potential businesses.
