Property developer Nikal has secured the latest retail letting at its Masshouse residential scheme in Eastside to supermarket chain Spar.
The retailer has taken a 2,100 sq ft unit on a 15 year lease in the ground floor retail space at Masshouse Plaza, part of Nikal’s mixed-use Masshouse development.
Masshouse Plaza is home to both the 173-unit Masshouse residential development completed in 2006 and the 167-unit, multi award-winning Hive apartment building, which was completed in 2011.
Spar is the latest retailer to take space at Masshouse, joining Papa John’s Pizza and residential specialists Eight8 lettings.
John Moffat, Development Director, Nikal, said: “We have seen a growing level of interest in the retail units at Masshouse Plaza and I am exceedingly pleased that we have been able to find a suitable occupier in the form of Spar.
“Eastside is firmly establishing itself as one of Birmingham’s best up-and-coming locations, offering fast and convenient access to the city’s creative, retail, learning and business quarters.
“The prosperity of this part of the city, which will be bolstered through the development of the new Magistrates Court on the adjacent plot, will continue to grow both in the short and long terms and I am delighted that we are able to be a part of this.”
Formed in 2003 to pursue major regeneration and redevelopment opportunities locations across the UK, Nikal is continuing to explore development opportunities within Birmingham city centre and has received planning permission to bring forward the second phase of the mixed-use Masshouse scheme, Exchange Square, on the plot of land adjacent to Masshouse Plaza.
