Newport-headquartered Certus TG has fitted out Tenovus’ new mobile cancer support unit with more than £2,000 of state-of-the-art IT equipment as part of its ongoing support for the charity.
The IT consultancy has supplied notebooks and printing equipment that will allow Tenovus’ staff to work on-the-go as they travel throughout Wales, treating patients suffering from lymphoedema. The new XPS12 notebooks can also be used as tablets, meaning they are portable and easy to use in patients’ homes.
More than 4,000 people in Wales are estimated to suffer from the condition which can often be a side effect of cancer treatment, causing chronic swelling throughout the body. Patients often find it difficult to access the specialist treatment they require due to their geographical location, or a lack of local resources, and the mobile unit, which is the first of its kind, will allow the charity to treat an additional 25 patients every day.
Certus TG has provided Tenovus with IT support for 10 years, and helped to equip its first mobile cancer unit with internet support via satellite in 2010.
Paul Brown, CEO of Certus TG, said: “We are proud to have worked closely with Tenovus for 10 years now, doing our part to ensure that the charity is able to help as many people as possible.
“It is an extremely worthwhile cause that makes a real difference to cancer patients and their families across Wales, and it is a pleasure to be able to provide such valuable support, knowing that it will help to make such a difference to so many peoples’ lives.”
Dr Rachel Iredale, Director of Cancer Support at Tenovus, said:
“It’s great to have on-going support from Certus TG; their donation has made it possible for our new Mobile Cancer Support Unit to be fully equipped with the best technology meaning we really are state-of-the-art, both in terms of the technology on board and the services we provide for cancer patients and their families, wherever and whenever they need it most.”
