Opportunities for growth and investment were discussed when Economy Minister Edwina Hart visited arvato’s new base in Swansea where it operates the first independently run shared service centre on behalf of the UK Government.
The company secured a seven-year contract to manage the former Department for Transport (DfT) facility at Sandringham Park in March this year. The centre and its employees transferred to arvato on 1st June and it is providing a range of back office services to the Department and its executive agencies.
arvato has already expanded its team in Swansea and is planning for further growth at the centre.
Following her visit the Minister said: “I would like to congratulate arvato on winning the contract to become the first private sector company to manage one of these new independent shared service centres.
“I was pleased to hear that jobs have already been created at Swansea and that there is considerable potential for growth by competing for additional outsourced central government business.
“I know arvato is looking to deliver more shared services through Swansea, which is excellent news and I welcome arvato’s expansion into Wales where they join the rapidly expanding financial and professional sector – one of our key priority sectors.”
Dean Nicholson, Operations Director, Public Sector at arvato, said: “We’ve been made to feel very welcome in Swansea over the past six months and we’ve inherited a fantastic team who continue to deliver excellent work for our clients.
“We’re looking forward to playing an active role in the local business community alongside our IT partner, UNIT4, which has been operating in Swansea for over 25 years.”
The Minister also met representatives of arvato at the Welsh Government offices in London during an event held for the Financial and Professional Services.
